The main area of activity of the institution is the dissemination of professional art (fine arts, music, literature), with a focus on professional fine arts. It presents the most famous Lithuanian and foreign artists, with exhibitions lasting two weeks. Laiptų Galerija is faithful to the tradition of art, focused on middle-generation artists, and pays special attention to presenting the work of émigré artists. . There is no other cultural institution or private collector in northern Lithuania that has accumulated so many works by émigré artists and organized so many presentations of their work. Žibuntas Mikšys (Paris) was the patron and supporter of the Staircase Gallery. Thanks to him, Lithuanian artists living and working abroad were presented, and a unique collection of artworks was accumulated. The Laiptų Gallery in Šiauliai hosted the first and only exhibition of lithographs by Vytautas Kasiulis (Paris) in Lithuania.
Every month, the staircase gallery hosts classical chamber music concerts, literary evenings, and folklore concerts, promoting ethnic culture. The Salduvė folklore ensemble is one of the best in Lithuania. Projects organized: the international art festival Šiaulių Monmartro Respublika (Šiauliai Montmartre Republic) since 2002, the project Sit venia verbo – a series of literary and musical events (a continuation of the projects Literatūrinis žiemkelis (Literary Winter) and Verbum musicale).
